UIMS Participates in International Day of Peace Celebration in Anbar, Highlighting the Role of Humanitarian Action in Promoting Stability and Social Cohesion
t the kind invitation of the Organizations Affairs Department at the Anbar Governorate Office, the United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS) – Anbar Branch, represented by Mr. Saad Shakir, participated in the International Day of Peace celebration held under the theme “Anbar Celebrates Peace and Presents Its Experience to Iraq and the World.”
The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of Anbar Governor Eng. Omar Mishaan Dabous, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers – NGO Department, reaffirming the importance of peace and stability as fundamental pillars for achieving sustainable development and creating an enabling environment for economic and investment growth in the governorate.
In his remarks, the Governor of Anbar highlighted the importance of strengthening a culture of peace, preserving stability, and building on the progress achieved in the governorate in order to move toward a new phase focused on development, investment, and creating a more stable future for the people of Anbar.
The celebration also featured the participation of Mr. Saad Ghazi Al-Mohammadi, Member of the Anbar Provincial Council and Head of the Council’s Security and Defense Committee, who highlighted the importance of integrating legislative, executive, and community roles in supporting efforts toward security, peace, and stability.
During his remarks, Al-Mohammadi commended the role played by civil society organizations in general and the United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS) in particular, recognizing the humanitarian services and initiatives it has delivered across various areas of Anbar Governorate. He specifically highlighted UIMS’s efforts in Al-Saqlawiyah, recalling the Society’s humanitarian and service interventions during his tenure as head of the subdistrict and their contribution to supporting the local community.
For his part, Dr. Ashraf Al-Dahan addressed the role of civil society organizations in supporting government efforts through programs and initiatives that strengthen social cohesion and contribute to promoting a culture of peace.
The event was attended by a wide range of government and security institutions involved in peace and stability efforts, including the Anbar Operations Command, Anbar Police Command, committees concerned with countering extremism and community reconciliation, and peace committees, alongside civil society organizations, volunteer teams, and international partners.
The participation of UIMS’s Anbar Branch is part of the Society’s continued presence and programs across the governorate, reflecting its commitment to cooperation with government institutions, civil society, and local and international partners in support of communities and the promotion of coexistence, peace, and social cohesion.
