UIMS Participates in Workshop on Humanitarian Preparedness Planning for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Gender-Based Violence
The United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS) participated in a specialized workshop on humanitarian preparedness planning for sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence, organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Iraq, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the readiness of institutions and partners to effectively respond to health and humanitarian needs, particularly those of women and girls during crises and emergencies.
The workshop focused on strengthening participants’ capacities in advance planning and preparedness for humanitarian response, while discussing priorities related to the continuity of sexual and reproductive health services. It also addressed mechanisms for preventing and responding to violence against women and girls, contributing to ensuring access to essential and safe services in various humanitarian settings.
These areas are particularly important given the role of UNFPA in Iraq in supporting the improvement of sexual and reproductive health services and working with government institutions, civil society organizations, and partners to strengthen the protection of women and girls.
UIMS’s participation reflects its commitment to developing its institutional and technical capacities in humanitarian preparedness and response, health, and protection, while strengthening coordination with United Nations agencies and national and international partners. These efforts contribute to building more effective and sustainable responses based on the actual needs of vulnerable populations.
The Society emphasized the importance of investing in preparedness before crises occur, developing clear and practical response plans, and strengthening coordination among health and humanitarian actors. Such efforts play an essential role in ensuring the continuity of essential services and protecting the dignity and safety of women and girls during emergencies.
The United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS) appreciates the efforts of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in supporting national capacities and strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations. UIMS reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to develop its partnerships and programs in support of a more prepared and resilient health and humanitarian system capable of responding effectively to crises and protecting those most in need.
