With Support from UNFPA, UIMS Holds Dialogue Session on Leveraging Technology to Enhance Young People’s Reproductive Health Choices

The United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS), with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), held a specialized dialogue session on the importance of using contemporary technology to enhance reproductive health choices among young people. The session brought together representatives of government institutions and civil society, along with specialists and young professionals with expertise in artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.

The session was held as part of efforts to support dialogue spaces that place young people at the heart of discussions on issues affecting their health and future, while strengthening their ability to access reliable and safe health information and make informed and responsible use of modern technology and digital platforms.

The session brought together representatives and specialists from UNFPA, the Iraqi Ministry of Health, the Baghdad Governorate, and civil society. Discussions addressed the current state of reproductive health among young people and the role of technology in facilitating access to information and services. Participants also discussed the importance of privacy and confidentiality, addressing misleading health information, and the role of media, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship in developing more effective tools for awareness-raising and outreach to young people.

The dialogue provided young participants with a direct opportunity to engage with speakers and share their views and questions, strengthening their role as partners in identifying needs and developing solutions rather than simply as recipients of programs and awareness messages.

UIMS values the support provided by UNFPA to initiatives and programs aimed at promoting young people’s health, empowering them, and expanding their participation. UIMS also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among national institutions, United Nations agencies, civil society, and young people to develop sustainable solutions that respond to the rapidly evolving social and digital landscape.

The session forms part of UIMS’s efforts to strengthen programs that bring together health, awareness, innovation, and youth empowerment, while building partnerships that contribute to transforming technology into a responsible tool that serves people and enhances their ability to make more informed decisions about their health and future.
