A New Partnership Signed Between the United Iraqi Medical Society and UNFPA

The United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Development (UIMS) is pleased to announce the launch of a new partnership cycle with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), set to run from 2025 to 2029. This collaboration aims to strengthen joint efforts to improve reproductive health and family planning services across Iraq.

As the first initiative under this partnership, an awareness campaign was launched covering the period from April 1 to June 30, 2025. The project targets four Iraqi governorates—Anbar, Basra, Wasit, and Diwaniyah—and involves the deployment of specialized mobile teams to raise community awareness about the importance of family planning and birth spacing. The goal is to reduce the negative health consequences of closely spaced pregnancies and to lower maternal and infant mortality rates.

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of both UIMS and UNFPA to support women’s health and promote greater awareness among Iraqi families of the critical role that birth spacing plays in ensuring the wellbeing of mothers and children, ultimately contributing to improved health and social outcomes in Iraqi society.
